Causes of Female Infertility

Female infertility, as the name itself suggests, is the inability of a woman to bear a child in her womb. The infertility is mostly associated with the problems related to ovaries, fallopian tubes or uterus and cervix. The women who are in proximity of contracting ovulation problems due to several reasons are more prone to infertility.

Possible symptoms for infertility that a woman might experience are irregular or skipped menstrual cycles, irregularity in ovulation, increased abnormal hair growth, weight gain, mood swings, decreased libido and more.

Following are the causes that trigger in female infertility;

1.Ovulation problems

Ovulation problems cause the inability of the ovaries to release the matured eggs every month. They follow either an irregular pattern or the ovulation gets skipped at times as well. Here are the conditions that cause such problems to occur.

  • Polycystic Ovary Disease and Syndrome (PCOD/ PCOS): The PCOD and PCOS are originated from the same cause except the difference lie in the intensity of the problem. PCOD causes hormonal imbalance that affects the ovulation, however, PCOS causes major hormonal instability leading to no ovulation.
  • Premature Ovarian Failure: Premature Ovarian Failure is the insufficiency of the eggs to release more than 12 eggs or the failure of the ovaries to develop the eggs.
  • Hypothalamic Dysfunction: FSH and Luteinizing Hormones are the two hormones that stimulate the ovulation each month. When these hormones production get disrupted due to sudden weight loss or gain, surgery or any infection, then it leads to a condition of Hypothalamic Dysfunction.

      2. Damage to the Fallopian Tube

Fallopian tube is responsible for carrying the sperm to the eggs in order to get them fertilized. However, certain damage to the fallopian tube can restrict its functioning to a great extent supposedly the blockage of tubes. Certain inflammatory diseases linked to the uterus and fallopian tube, surgery and pelvic tuberculosis cause the damage to the fallopian tube.

      3. Endometriosis

Endometriosis is the growth of the extra tissues in the uterus walls, and uterus implants that cause or restricts the proper fertilization of the eggs and sperms to form the embryo. Even the removal of these extra tissues from the uterus implants can end up damaging the fallopian tubes and indirectly causing the blockage that results in infertility.

       4.Cervical Cancer

Cancer of any form is sufficient enough to cause any major problem in any part of the body. But, a cancerous lump or tumour growth in the cervix can cause infertility in women with higher probability.
