Preconception-care-for-women

Before you start planning for pregnancy there are some preconception care steps that should be taken to increase the chances of a healthy pregnancy.

Here are few preconception care tips that women should take in order to have a successful and healthy pregnancy.

Eat healthy

Make sure your daily diet is rich in folic acid. By doing so, you lower the risk factor of possible birth defects related to the brain and spine.

Say no to smoking & drinking

This is a must have on your preconception care list. Excessive smoking and consumption of high amounts of alcohol adversely affect your fertility. So, if you are planning to become a mother then it is high time you cut back on both these habits.

Smoking has a negative impact on ovulation and excessive alcohol consumption can result in the imbalance of your menstrual cycle. It can also lead to birth defects. Even though it is difficult to let go of these habits suddenly, at least you can decrease the consumption level. Try keeping a leash on these habits, don’t let them overrule you.

The weight factor

Maintain a weight balance. Being underweight or overweight – both can have a negative impact on pregnancy.

Being overweight can cause complications during pregnancy and being underweight increase the risk of giving birth to low weight babies. Also, maintaining weight balance is good for your overall health as well.

Pay the doctor a visit

An important point in your preconception checklist is to book a doctor’s appointment and get a preconception checkup done. Discuss your medical history, any medications you are currently taking, possible vaccinations that you might have to take before pregnancy and anything that could possibly affect your fertility with the doctor.

Taking care of such things now will help prevent any pregnancy complications in the future.

Stay away from stress

Easier said than done. True. But at least you can try to stay as much stress free and as much happy as possible. Stress disturbs the hormonal balance in your body which can lead to fertility problems.

These were some pointers that you need to take care of in your preconception care checklist.
